Walking on Sunshine

It’s a hot time for a dog in the city – Diamond, who is as cool as the other side of the pillow, has handled the heat quite swimmingly!

Her day was filled with exploration, naps, and all the attention she could ask for. It must be exhausting being such a good pup – hence the need for snoozing 🙂

Around 1:30 pm, she was back outside to handle some business and scope things out. The neighborhood was lively today with the holiday weekend winding down – but to Diamond, everyday is a holiday!

She took her time cruising around, parking it under the shade when the humidity began to clamp down. Her curiosity and wonder were still turned all the way up, so naturally she wanted to inspect as much as possible.

Searching around for the good stuff eventually led her back home, where she was welcomed by the cool blast of the AC and lots of fresh water. Some relaxing was in order – after settling in, belly rubs and cuddles were next on her to-do list. It certainly seemed her big smiles tuckered her out, as she drifted into a deep slumber.

At about 6:30 pm, she was wide awake, giddy with excitement for the goodness awaiting her this evening. She was encouraged to eat, but it seemed the outdoors were priority #1 (followed by #2 🙂 ).

Summertime crowds strolled past on foot and bike, neighborhood cats lingered in the distance, and smells of all sorts lay scattered throughout – all of which caught Diamond’s attention, as her wide-eyed wonder directed her path.

Once she worked up a bit of an appetite, she headed back home to cool back down – and dig in!

It seems she much prefers to eat the majority of her food in the evening, having had only a few bites this morning. But dinnertime was her time to shine, and she chowed down until her tummy was full – until it was time for treats/dessert, where she suddenly became very hungry again 🙂

One more quick stroll before bed is in order before she calls it a day. There’s been no shortage of cuddles and affection here today -much to her delight!

Sunday Morning

Sunshine was ready for action at about 7:00 am, waking up to lots of cuddles – sending her tail into quite a whirl of happiness!

Before she fell asleep last night, she had one more business stroll, which must’ve worked up her appetite – more food and water was appreciated before she called it a day.

She also ate a bit after her stroll this morning – good to see she isn’t shy about munching away 🙂

For a Sunday morning in July, there sure were more folks milling about than anticipated – but Diamond was living it up in the moment, leading the charge over to the skate park and nearby basketball courts.

She dashed around with big smiles on her face, her paws barely grazing the ground as she danced across the courts. A slight breeze and cooler temperatures gave her a chance to explore comfortably, free from the overbearing humidity of the last few days.

After about 45 minutes of pup activities, she set her sights back towards home. Breakfast and fresh water were enjoyed, and she snuggled up for endless belly rubs and affection.

She has an adorable way of cuddling up as close as possible – even if it means falling asleep on top of my face! All good – as long as she’s comfortable 🙂

Hopefully the weather stays on the cooler side today, but either way, she’ll be ready to lounge and enjoy the rest of her weekend!

Stay tuned for more Diamond goodness!

Summer Jams

As the day progressed, Diamond basked in the comfort of home, snoozing away most of the morning – but not without her fill of belly rubs first! The outdoors continued to bake under a blanket of humidity – paving the way for some brief afternoon rain showers.

When she woke up from a midday nap, she was eager to get out and about – her timing was less than impeccable, however, as it started pouring the second she was all geared up. She didn’t mind waiting a few extra minutes – more belly rubs proved sufficient in the meantime.

At about 2:00 pm, she was ready to stroll around, taking her time stepping through the sweltering heat. Unfortunately, the rain didn’t really didn’t help to lessen the humidity much, but she took on the elements without a care in the world.

The midday heat and humidity soon made an impact, and after about 30 minutes she was ready to head back inside after much snooping around. There were a couple of times she sensed the neighborhood kittens were nearby – she got quite excited anytime she sensed their presence!

After her afternoon snooze, she was up and ready to chow down around 6:00 pm. She ate a whole bunch tonight (and has had plenty of fresh water throughout the day), seemingly back to her regular eating routines (She certainly has no shame going on hunger strikes when she misses you – such loyalty! Much wow! 🙂 !).

She had a whole bunch of energy after dinner – her kibble fueled her right up – and was ready for an evening adventure shortly after dessert. Side note: She loves her treats – although it’s a bit disappointing the bag claims, “Long Lasting Entertainment.” It took Diamond maybe 3 and a half seconds to devour it all!

Her evening stroll went terrific. A full tank of pup energy and neighborhood hustle and bustle had her bursting with anticipation – but as always, she responded amazingly to verbal cues and instructions.

Since Sunshine has had to adapt to the park schedule this weekend, she’s been a little bit more jazzed up than usual, as she adjusts to walks that don’t include the park. She has listened intently every step of the way, making sure to stay focused so she could get to the good stuff (Including food scraps and garbage, which the sidewalks offer a whole bunch of – but much to her dismay, no street snacks have been consumed thus far).

If she ever started pulling a little too much, we would stop in place, allowing her to catch her breath and observe a bit. While at the park, she loves to just sit back and watch the world unfold around her – luckily, we’ve been able to find a couple quiet spots around so she could do just that. Not totally the same as the park scenery, but just as relaxing 🙂

Ones and twos were accounted for on this stroll, and it seems her scheduling in this regard is right on track as well. She adapts quickly to her surroundings, and certainly appreciates a bit of routine 🙂

She has been keeping it cool all night, sleeping soundly and comfortably after a busy day. It’s evident she finds her groove when she has some company around – whether it’s eating, goofing around, or even snoozing – she never wants you to leave her side (although, at this rate, she’ll be sick of me by tomorrow!).

Sunshine is the sweetest soul in New York, and it isn’t particularly close.

Parks and Rec

The clock struck 7:30 am, and Diamond was as jazzed up as could be, ready to get her day started. After a quick sip of water, she bolted down the stairs in eager anticipation, leaping with excitement before exiting the building.

With tons of energy in tow, it seemed she needed more than just a stroll around the neighborhood streets – especially since she hasn’t had any park time so far this weekend.

Ones and twos were dispatched quickly, before a decision was made to check out Ft. Greene Park – a first for Diamond with this walker 🙂

To say she was excited would be the understatement of the year – it took all of her effort to, “stay with me,” but per usual she was super responsive and tried her best.

When she arrived at the park entrance, she instantly locked in on all of the squirrels scurrying about – sending her into quite a tizzy!

Sunshine got a whole bunch of exercise here (which she seemed to be in the mood for), chasing and jumping around with the purest of pup intentions.

Even though it was off-leash hours at the park, she responded wonderfully and did her best to focus her attention elsewhere. Her intelligence is off the charts – Sunshine follows instructions/verbal cues like a total pro, even when every instinct is telling her, “Let me chase everything!”

After working off a bunch of playful energy, she headed home right as the sun began to cook the pavement. She’s gotten a bit of sun this summer, so the morning walks seem to be the best time for her to really get after it. As the day heats up, stepping into the humidity is like throwing a sweater on top of her fur coat – not exactly a necessary accessory for this time of year.

Back inside, she drank a whole bunch of fresh water and relaxed in front of her fan. Sleep has been a priority for her as she rests up for her next great adventure – which will probably include lunch later today 🙂

Stay tuned for more of Diamond’s awesomeness!

The Wonder Dog

Sunshine is the best – and during the summertime, she is everywhere!

With so much to offer the world, it seemed fitting to showcase her special blend of joy, curiosity, and goofiness here. There’s a million little details of her day-to-day that, although simple in nature, contribute to the layers of wonder that is Diamond – and some folks geek out over it all 🙂

Below is an update from last night/today. Should be able to update a couple times per day (and posts won’t be as long as this one – just had a lot to cover!).

****

July 4th brings out the festive in people, with fireworks seemingly the main ingredient for celebration. For a lot of dogs, this holiday ranks low on their list of favorites!

Diamond did her best to enjoy the fireworks, even if the show never really ended. Having a guest by her side helped her settle in a bit easier, but it took a moment before she was totally in her comfort zone.

The snap, crackle, and pops in the sky didn’t help with her appetite – but a deep slumber was just the ticket away from the noise.

Sleeping in was just what she needed after an exciting evening. Around 8:30 am, she was ready to stroll and scope out the scenery.

Usually, it’s right to the park for this pup – but with the festival set up for the weekend, she’s had to navigate around the neighborhood. No problem for her – there seems to be quite a few more chances to look for food on the ground along these routes (not today – or ever pup!)

Back home, she was still a little on the food-strike mood – not uncommon when there’s been a change in routine. But when her food was presented to her as an airplane and choo-choo train, her eyes lit up and she was ready to chow-down (she did prefer to eat out of my hand at first – typical 🙂 !)

Midday snuggles and snoozing had her ready for an afternoon stroll around 2 pm, where the humidity clung to the air like coffee-stains on a brand new t-shirt. Walks have been a little bit on the shorter side as a result – after about 20-30 minutes, she’ll give a look that signals she’s ready to cool down inside.

More naps, play time, and eating filled her afternoon before another stroll at 6:30 pm. She enjoyed watching the sunset, while also keeping an eye out for kittens – there seems to be quite a few around town!

She’s had lots of fresh water throughout the day – she is absolutely LOVING her new water bowl! She is not shy about making a splash while gulping down a cool beverage 🙂

Also of note: Ones and twos were dispatched during the AM/midday walks – everything looking healthy there.

She’ll get out for one last “business” call before bed – she just finished eating a little bit more food.

Stay tuned for more of the good stuff!
